NEW BARCELONA SHIRT 2010/2011 - David Villa presented to Camp Nou

What do you make of the new Barcelona shirt for 2010/2011? Not too fond of it at the moment but the last one took a while to convince me. It's the yellow trim that puts me off. Today was also the day David Villa was presented to his new fans. 'I will contribute my bit towards making Barcelona even better than what they are now'. Personally I can't see how he won't. All Barca lacked this season, if they lacked anything, was an out and out goalscorer. Yes, Messi scored 47 goals, but perhaps a few of you will understand what I'm trying to say. Someone to take the weight off Leo when the little genius has a rare off day. Perfect example: Inter Milan. Couple of questions. Is this the end for Ibrahimovic? Will Barcelona be just that little bit more unstoppable next season? I would just LOVE to hear your opinions.

Barca shirt release date: 5th June 2010

  1. I know exactly what you mean and I think it's a fantastic signing by Barca. I can only point to the Inter match to prove my point, Barca lacked something and Villa could be the man to give them that little bit extra. The fact he is Spanish is also important. He will have no problems with language or culture and as a Spanish internationalist will know half the Barca team already.

  2. Jamie! Awesome, someone knows what I mean! Totally agree, fantastic signing. Limited risk, if any at all. Proven goalscorer in La Liga, so imagine with Xavi and Iniesta behind him.

  3. It seems Barca is quietly going about their summer business without making too much fuss. If, as expected, Fabregas joins then it has been a great summer for them with two top quality signings. I think regardless of who Real Madrid buy in the summer, Barca will start the season as favourites with a very well settled team and two new players who are extremely motivated to prove something. Also, Pep vs Mou the rematch, should be a cracking season.

  4. It certainly will be.

Feel sorry for poor old Fabregas....would he start? I (and pretty much everybody else) see him as the successor to Xavis throne, so perhaps it would be a season or two too soon....for Cesc of course. For Barca its ideal. Get him in early and ease him into the team.

Wierd for Guardiola that he'll be buying the successor to his successor! All raised at La Masia.

  5. Yeah not 100% about that new shirt either, although it looks better on David Villa (er, I didn't mean that like it probably sounds).

I wonder if Barca will walk away from the Fabregas deal if the price Arsenal want is too high. I agree that they don't *need* him yet, and will probably feel they can wait a season or two longer. Cesc, however, probably doesn't feel the same.

    Cheers
    Matt

  6. On the Fabregas issue, I honestly think he would start most matches. He is a cracking player, as is Xavi and top players can play together. This is not a case of Gerrard and Lampard. In my opinion, these two are much more talented and technically superior. I think the one who will suffer is Keita. To go back to the Inter semi final this year, there is no doubt Fabregas would have provided Barca that extra edge that neither Keita nor Toure could.

  7. Agreed about Xavi/Cesc v Gerrard/Lampard. Keita won't get many games now, but I reckon Toure is vital for Barca (didn't play against Inter in San Siro and look what happened). He gives them physical presence in the middle of the park and is more than capable of scoring some crackers and going on mazy runs. I reckon a midfield quartet of Xavi, Cesc, Iniesta and Pedro lacks a bit of muscle, although they'd be amazing to watch ;)

  8. I agree about Toure but there is also Busquets who can give them the muscle. He is a big lad and has to start being a bit more physical rather than falling over like a nancy, as he tends to do quite often. I would go, Busquets, Xavi, Cesc and Inniesta. That would be the Spain midfield and the biggest loser out of all of this would be Xabi Alonso. Just my opinion.

  9. Matt! I know what you meant! Good job that didnt come from Pique or Ibras mouth ;)

Jamie: Are you a fan of Busquets? I really cant make my mind up about him. I guess he's still young but he takes inconsistency to a new level. And when he fell over, just like a proper nancy, when he got Motta sent off. Lost a lot of respect for him after that.

That said, that midfield four you named there would be divine. With Messi and Villa up top. Unbeatable. Spains strength in depth is scary.

  10. I am not a huge fan of Busquets but he has improved a lot and I have seen him have some very good games. I think under Guardiola he will continue to improve. As I said, I didn't like his antics against Inter. I don't think he would last too long in British football.

  11. i don't think toure should be allowed to leave because we are yet to get a perfect replacement for him when, it comes to physical strength and perseverances. if only he play against inter in san siro, things could have been different from how it all appears.
